PROJECT

In Poland and other countries of the region the year 2009 was the year of a profound debate on the successes and difficulties of the 1989 transformation. We wish to use the outcome of this debate to the discussion on the prospects for the next 20 years. Everyone who cares about the development of ones region is welcome to join the debate: young researchers, leaders, journalists, NGO-activists and others. Let’s work together to create the visions of REGION 2030.

Let’s plan TOGETHER the future of our Region

In 1989 the process of changes in the countries of the Eastern bloc started. Our region changed during the last 20 years. This change has been particularly present in the countries of Central Europe, which joined the European Union and had become members of the NATO alliance. It has been a successful change because the societies of these countries worked TOGETHER.
We have created, after 20 years, the INITIATIVE 89 as a coalition of non-governmental organisations to celebrate the time of change, the time that enabled changes in Poland. And these changes brought fruit as a common effort of many, as an act of working TOGETHER. TOGETHER is an idea behind the actions – common act for a change.

However, the changes are not taking place with the same speed everywhere. Let's work together to speed them up. Let us join forces and create a vision for the Region in 2030. Log in on the portal, fill in the questionnaire, write an essay

The authors of  best contributions and the most active portal users will take part in the meetings of the working group in Poland, where we shall elaborate Visions: Region2030. The result of the undertaking shall be presented during a concluding conference.

TOGETHER we shall build in the regions the coalitions of NGOs working for a change.

The mechanism of the project.

Everyone wishing to participate in the project and willing to contribute to the future can register on the web site and create the account. The first step is filling in the questionnaire and since then you can participate in the process of editing the website and contributing to the project region2030.
The next step is to write a short piece on the process of changes in your country, description of the current situation in the country or the region, or alternatively, an essay on your vision of your country or region in 2030. The written pieces will serve as a material for further elaborations on the common vision for the Region. Since that moment we shall be working together through a forum discussion, sharing ideas or materials in order to prepare the meeting of the working group. The authors of best writings and the most active members of the project will take part in the meeting of the working group in Poland. Thanks to the tools available on the portal, we shall be able to prepare the whole meeting: collect materials, division of thematic sub-groups and establishment of the working agenda. The first meeting will take place in the beginning of September in Poland with the purpose of working out the vision of region2030 and the further rules of cooperation within the group.
